My senses must be hiding in a corn field some wheres in Dayton, OH. Not that there are actually any corn fields here but it is quite different from my first love, Chicago. Living in this god awful town is quit the drag. Having no friends or acquaintances of any kind is simply depressing. The only human being I spend time with is my father, who is a pretty cool cat once you get to know him. However, besides him and my five hour long phone conversations with persons in different states one has nothing to occupy their time with besides perusing the internets, smoking numerous Marlboro lights, and coming up with semi-healthy things to eat.
This brings me to the intended subject of this meaningless blog. Pad Thai. That delicious, crisp, warm, crunchy, flavorful dish that is quite popular among American Thai food connoisseurs. So after about 20 minutes of bickering with dear old dad in the local Meijer, he finally decides its okay to buy multiple ingredients for dinner instead of the usual one pre-cooked meal to be heated in the microwave.
Now before I go into my problems deciphering between parsley and cilantro I have to tell you the peanut story. I tell my dad, "hey dad, we need those small packages of peanuts that are two for a dollar." he says to me, "how much?" and i repeat, "its two little packages for one dollar. un peso." So he gives me this look, this stubborn, complaining look. Like a child about the have a temper tantrum. So here's this old man telling me that instead of buying peanuts for a dollar hes going to de-shell peanuts for me. There is a 15 pound bag of peanuts sitting on my table at this moment. I can't even lift this bag without giving it a little effort. I am weak, though, this might explain the great effort it takes to pick this bag up.
Back to the parsley story. Cilantro is 89 cents a bundle. I'm sitting there sifting through these bundles thinking, "I really don't need this much Cilantro. This is a LOT of Cilantro." I pick a bundle cause it's only 89cents. Yes, I cannot make a cents symbol. So I'm making my Pad Thai out of a box and I have everything ready and I'm about to cut this "Cilantro" and I definitely realize that it's Parsley. My hopes and dreams are crushed. My Pad Thai doesn't taste that good without it. They really should put more sauce into those little packets.
That's my story. <3
